Alec Crawford
Director, Nature for Resilience
Alec Crawford is the Director of Nature for Resilience at IISD. Within this role, he oversees the Resilience Program’s work on nature, undertaking and supervising research, policy, and practice that aims to harness the role of nature-based solutions to protect biodiversity, adapt to the impacts of climate change, and promote peace.
Since joining IISD in 2004, Alec’s work has focused on several core areas of sustainable development policy and practice. He works extensively on climate change adaptation through the NAP Global Network, through which he provides technical support, analysis, and guidance to governments on their National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes in several thematic areas, including private sector engagement, sectoral adaptation, and peace and conflict. Alec has led IISD’s work on Environment, Conflict and Peacebuilding, advancing research, policy, and practice on conflict-sensitive conservation, climate change and security, conflict resources, migration, and greening peacekeeping operations. He sits on the Board of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association. For 7 years, he worked with the IISD-based Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) to support governments seeking to optimize the contributions of their mining sectors to sustainable development.
Alec holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics. He is based in Toronto, Canada.
